Each piece of furniture is made from solid oak. The timber is seasoned and kiln dried in preparation for the making of this handcrafted product. There is simplicity to the design with no two pieces of furniture the same, as characteristics of the wood give each item a unique look.
When using solid wood there will always be some natural imperfections. These are usually small knots, natural blemishes, cracks and slight variation in colour. Such characteristics are a part of the natural solid wood.
Much of the work that goes into making this furniture is carried out by hand. You will notice the use of a traditional dowel-peg on the mortise and tenon joints. The cabinet maker hand cuts each one into place. Preparation of the furniture for hand polishing is all performed by craftsmen and there may be slight variances in panels due to the hand sanding process.
Finally, the furniture is stained and lacquered. These process will give the wood both colour and protection while the oiled oak finish is achieved using boiled linseed oil.
With any solid wood product there is likely to be some movement. This is normal and due to the wood adjusting to the atmospheric conditions of your home.
Care of your furniture is easy. If you selected one of our lacquered finishes, this can be wiped with a moist cloth together with a mild detergent and dried with a soft cloth. The occasional use of beeswax can be applied if the surfaces are feeling dry.
If you have selected our oil finish then an application of boiled linseed oil with a soft cloth should be carried out when the wood feels very dry. Allow the oil to dry into the wood naturally, wipe off any excess in necessary.
When using linseed oil, please take care in the disposal of used cloths. Firstly soak in warm water before disposal in a waste bin to avoid any possibility of combustion.
